Notes: I was truly hoping to make an excellent showing at this year’s hometown half (fourth annual), but it just wasn’t in the stars. Crohn’s reared its ugly head on the fifth mile. I had been cruising along nicely with Zach. Ryan was ahead of us, and Mitch was behind us in the 5K. All of the sudden, pain. I stopped at every bathroom from that moment forward. I considered quitting twice, actually stopping on the side of the road to discuss it with Ed at one point and a friend/course monitor at another. I decided to soldier on, walk when I had to, and stop when I had to. Mom met me at mile 9 with some medicine. It made the pain go away, but of course, it made my body feel rubbery. That race was a long, arduous task, but I finished. The funny part is that in the previous three races, with times of 1:55, 1:52, and 2:01, I never placed in my age group. However, my 2:22 was good enough for third this year. :-)
