Weather: 85°, sunny, wind calm Notes: I registered for this race solely because it started at 10:00 A.M. on 10/10/10. The thought of running a cool, fall race was appealing, as well. (However, it ended up being 85°, but the fall colors were indeed beautiful.) My friend Ken Barnes from Let's Go was running as well. When I warmed-up for the race, I felt a pain in my side (a health issue with which I'd been dealing for a month). The pain wasn't as noticeable during the race, though. I just enjoyed running a course with which I wasn't familiar, which happened to be the route for the parade that was taking place a few hours later. A friend of mine who lives on the race course sat on the curb to give me a cheer as I passed. When I turned back east, the sun became pretty intense. On the last mile, I had to run over some grass. Even though it was rock-hard from the drought, I was nervous about turning an ankle, so I slowed a bit. I still passed seven people on that last mile, though, and only one passed me back. I was proud of picking off people near the end. It made me feel strong. Ken won his age group with a PR! Great memories for 10/10/10 at 10:00! Photos: 7 — See below. |
