Notes: For the first time ever, I got some decent speedwork preparation for the Monumental Mile. I did six quality workouts in the five weeks leading up to the event. Since the event was on my 38th birthday, I thought a mile PR would be an excellent gift to myself. Mom, Ed, MaeBe, and I headed up to Indy in the afternoon and met friends Schanzel and Jill. My heat was first. My splits were 1:43/43/45/40, and that was thrilling to me. All the hard work paid off! I was also honored to run the last 600m of Schanzel’s heat with him and Jill. He went WAY below 10! Of course, MaeBe was a hit on the circle. It was a great birthday evening.
