Weather: 30°, snow Notes: This was my first race in 2013, my first race in over three months, and my first race after an IT Band injury. I toed the line with plenty of time on my feet in training, but little to no speedwork. My goal was to stick with an 8:45 pace as best I could. I was pleased to be joined by Tim and Wendy Miller who paced me, and Zach Maudlin, a student who was running 10K for the first time. The first half of the race was comfortable. We enjoyed short conversation and some snow. The second half was tougher because I was tiring, the elevation was increasing, and I had two big blasts of Crohn's pain. Wendy stuck with me, and Tim stuck with Zach. I finished ninth in 53:26 (2nd female by 36 seconds), and Zach was tenth with 54:01. Top ten finishes for both of us! Jessie finished second overal in 48:10, and Chelsey persevered through a tough race to finish in 58:12. After the race, Ed and I headed to Terre Haute to watch the Lady Stars win the CLass 4A Basketball State Championship. GREAT DAY! Photos: 10 — See below. |
