Weather: 40°, mostly cloudy, wind calm Notes: For three years, I had been trying to break two hours in the half marathon, a 13.1-mile race. I was thwarted by joint injuries, heart rate problems, and (most heartbreakingly) a femoral fracture. After the broken leg healed, I started training again, as smartly and carefully as I could. On November 3, 2012, I raced the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon (Half) and smashed my sub-two goal with a 1:54:19. I was plagued by tummy troubles on the last third; but otherwise, the race was PERFECT. I was elated with the results. Running rules. Photos: 19 — See below. |
