Weather: 90°, sunny, humid, wind calm Notes: I’m not much of a summer trainer, but I started putting in more miles about three weeks before the Limestone 5K. My goal in a 5K is always to break 30:00, but in the Limestone 5K, I like to place in my division. The weather was not in a runner’s favor. It was hot, humid, and sunny. A tenth of a mile into the race, I was already sweating. I got into a pretty good groove and started picking off targets one by one. I ran very consistently, but my belly started to bother me on the last mile. My friend Blaine out-kicked me at the finish line, and beat me by three seconds. I ran through the finish line and straight to the restroom, but I did pick up third place in my division. Many of my friends raced, and for some, it was their first 5K. That’s always exciting to witness. Photos: 4 — See below. |
