Notes: This race, a simple 10K, was one of the most difficult races of my life. It started off well. My first two miles were about 9:10, and I was on pace to PR. On the third mile, I started having Crohn's pain. As time slipped by, the pain got worse and worse. This situation was foreign to me because I generally don't have Crohn's issues on a run; running usually makes the Crohn's better. The fifth mile of this race was the most miserable mile of my life. The cramps were coming in waves, and they were so strong, my vision was getting blurred and pains were shooting down my right leg. I had resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to have a great time, so I started walking with one mile to go. Miraculously, the pains went away, so I started running again after about two minutes. With about 0.3 mi. to go, the pain hit again, only stronger. I just started running as fast as I could, knowing that the faster I got to the finish line, the sooner I could rest. I collapsed when I crossed the finish line. Bill carried me to the car, and Mom drove me to the hospital where they gave me a couple shots of morphine. I could've done without the finish line drama, but I'm proud of myself for gutting it out (ha) and finishing in under an hour.
