Notes: The Limestone Run & walk was held almost three weeks after my first marathon. My muscles were recovered, but my feet were not. I was missing half my toenails, and two of those remaining were blackened. My toenail issuess coupled with a Remicade infusion at the hospital two days before (which made me weak), were a recipe for a tough run. However, the weather was cool, and my friend Libby was run/walking her first 5K. I set a goal of breaking 30:00. I felt like I was flying on the course, but my first mile spilt was 9:50, which is not flying. Because I had only been doing distance training at a 10:30 pace, the 9:50 felt fast. I was disappointed to finish 10 seconds slower than my goal. However, my disappointment has quickly alleviated when I considered where I was the previous year—in a cast, unable to run. I was further cheered when I learned I was third in my division. Congrats to Libby for finishing her first 5K!
